Brief Information about the Activity

Topic/Subject of the Activity DAAN UTSAV / JOY OF GIVING WEEK
Objectives for conducting Activity
  • To evoke sensitivity in student-teachers towards the underprivileged sections of society.
  • To foster good habits of caring and sharing with the less fortunate.
  • To put old utility articles which are still in good condition to use by those who lack these essential commodities.
  • To practice the 3R formula of Reduce- Reuse-Recycle.
  • To inculcate the values of generosity and benevolence in student-teachers.
  • To add a dimension of social service and community outreach to the B.Ed. curriculum.
Methodology
The student - teachers are oriented to the importance of community outreach and the need to be humane as responsible members of society. A consensus is reached by the student-teachers about the nature of utility articles that will be collected as part of the charity drive in keeping with the needs of the NGO beneficiaries for whom this outreach is being organised. An entire week is dedicated to this noble cause and is celebrated as 'The Joy of Giving Week'. This celebration is concluded by the significant ritual of DAAN UTSAV where the collected articles in a meaningful ceremony are put together and then donated to the NGO.
Outcome
  • Propagating values of generosity and benevolence in student-teachers.
  • Reaching out to the underprivileged.
  • Putting the 3R Formula into practice.
  • Adding a dimension of social-service to Teacher Education.
